PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT
School Commission
The School Commission consists of up to seven
commissioners representing various interest
groups of the Grays Harbor Catholic Faith Community
and the school. They may serve a maximum of
two- three year terms and are an advisory committee
to the Pastor and school Principal. Together
with the Principal they are responsible for
determining goals, setting budget, and directing
policy. If you are interested in serving on
the School Commission, you should speak with
either the Principal or one of the members of
the current School Commission.
The School Commission meets once a month at
the school. Minutes of the meeting are posted
on the information board in the main hallway.
For an added $5.00 you may have a monthly copy
mailed to your home.
Booster Club and Parent Organization
All parents/guardians who have children attending
St. Mary School and the faculty and staff are
considered members in good standing. Committees
are established and disbanded as necessary to
accomplish the objectives of the parent organization,
especially in helping fund raise revenue. The
open meetings are held monthly and will be announced
in the newsletter. Parents attending earn volunteer
hours.
Room Parents
Room parents are an important communication
link between classrooms and parents/guardians.
Many activities at the school necessitate parental
participation. Room parents help by contacting
the families and recruiting volunteers, as well
as helping to organize class parties and field
trips. Room parents meet monthly with the Principal.
Parents/Guardians in the Classroom
A parent/guardian wishing to volunteer in the
class should contact the classroom teacher concerning
the appropriate time and place for such work.
Every volunteer needs to fill out a background
check information sheet in the office prior
to volunteering as per Archdiocesan policy.
The Principal encourages teacher to facilitate
parental commitment with clear and specific
explanations of specific tasks and materials,
teaching methods, and skills to be used. In
addition, parents/guardians need to keep in
mind that observation of children’s behavior
and academic performance are of a confidential
nature. It is inappropriate and unethical for
volunteers to share this information with anyone
other than the teacher.
Other Committees
Other committees are formed as needed. Notice
will be sent home in the Song as these committees
are formed and parent/guardian involvement is
always welcome.
