LENT
By Sabrina
In religion, Fr. Dennis talked to us about Lent. I learned that the word “Lent” came from the old English word “Lencten,” which means lengthen. Lent in the old days was only 3 days. Now, it is 40 days, not counting the Sundays. 40 days means time of preparation. During Lent, we prepare by doing 3 things: fast, prayer, and alms-giving. We fast by giving up something to have more time with God. We can pray by going to Mass, praying before meals and bed, and reading the Bible. Alms-giving is to donate money to the less fortunate. A great way to do this is to donate money to the rice bowl. My goal is to donate a quarter or more a day. For Lent, I am going to give up my iPod. What are you going to give up?
